West Coast is all about modern beer styles where anything goes and as you would expect gives a big nod to the States. Our first two West Coast brews were California (Citrus Blonde) & Riptide (Black IPA) brewed on our big, shiny brewhouse (7000 pints a time).
We have recently purchased very small scale brewing equipment (150 pints) for some really experimental brews. This is what we've got lined up:
Due off w/c 25/11. San Francisco. American Pale Ale. ABV 6.5%. Really hoppy with loads of citrus & grapefruit. Balanced by full malt sweetness. We were really impressed by the German Hercules hops used which were more American in flavour/aroma than many American hops I've come across. Perhaps we should call it German Pale Ale! Available @ Harkers & Albion Ale House - check with them re:availability.
Due off w/c 2/12. Smoked Porter. ABV 5.6%. Smoked Oak chips added to our Telford Porter. Really good balance between Roast/Malty Porter flavours & the smokiness of the Oak. Not quite as intense as Rauchbiers of Germany but a good flavour all the same.
Due off (before Xmas). Figgy Ale. Collaboration with Duncan@Albion Ale House & Matt @ Vino Mondo. ABV 8-9%. Again Porter as the base, but going down the sweet, fruity & spicy route! PX sherry, Infusion of Figs, Honey, Cardamons, Cinnamon and other spices added with Belgian Ale Yeast to get a strong secondary fermentation going. Lactose sugar added for sweetness. This one should be very interesting and will get better with age. Will keep you posted.
